POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN COMPUTER EDUCATION

PROPOSED RULES
1.1 Any graduate with at least 45% marks in aggregate is eligible for
admission.
2.1 The duration of the course shall be one year from July/August to
May/June every academic year.
2.2 An examination shall be held at the end of academic year at such
places and on such dates as may be decided by the university.
2.3 There shall be eight papers and school experience programme.
2.4 The dates by which the admission forms and fees for examination
must reach the Registrar shall be decided by the University.
2.5 Three days of grace may be allowed after the last date without late
fee for the receipt of admission forms and fees.
2.6 The medium of Instruction and examination shall be English.
2.7 The examination shall be held on according to syllabi and courses of
reading recommended by the Board of Studies, Panjab University
and approved by its appropriate bodies.
2.8 The results shall be declared by the Registrar as soon as possible
after the Completion of examination.
2.9 Each successful candidate shall receive diplomas issued by the
University stating marks and division.
The minimum pass marks shall be 35% separately for theory
and practical in each paper. The successful candidates shall be
placed in the following divisions:
A. Those who obtain 75% or more First division with
Distinction
B. Those who obtain 60% more but less than First division 75% marks
C Those who obtain 50% or more but less than 60 % Marks Second
division.
D Those who obtained less than 50% of the total marks Third
division.
2.10 Two additional consecutive chances may be given to a candidate to
clear this examination, i.e. one in September and second in April
(Along with regular candidates).

2.11 The examination shall be open to a student who is eligible as laid
down in ordinance 1.1 and has his name sent up by the Principal
concerned with the following certificates:-
a) of having been enrolled in the college for the academic year
preceding the examination.
b) of good moral character.
c) of having attended 75% of the lectures delivered.
2.12 The Principal of the college concerned shall have the power to
condone in lectures in each paper up to 10% of the total number of
Lectures delivered.
2.13 A candidate who has attended the prescribed number of Lectures,
does not appear in the examination or having appeared has failed or
has been placed under reappear in one or more paper/s may be
allowed to appear as an ex-student on the recommendation of the
Principal concerned. In such cases, the candidates shall be
examined as per the course outlines in force at that time.

To monitor the standards of research; the students need rigorous and comprehensive inputs in
research methodology and analytical techniques. The faculty members who are inducted into
supervision also at times need such inputs. This course has been overdue now since students
who are aspiring for doctoral degrees and supervisors who do not have access to such
facilities are increasing in number. The transaction of this course curriculum has been
designed while keeping the working research scholars and faculty members of institutions in
mind. Masters courses can not afford such details in research methodology due to paucity of
time. Hence, this course will also serve as pre-Ph.D. course. This is open to research scholars,

Time : 3 hours
NOTE: There shall be 9 questions in all. Question number 1 shall be compulsory. It
shall consist of 15 short answer type questions out of which any 10 short answer
type questions need to be attempted. Each short answer type questions shall
carry 1.5 marks and needs to be answered in 25-30 words. Rest of the paper
shall contain 4 Units. Each Unit shall have two questions and the candidate shall
be given internal choice i.e. the candidates shall attempt one question from each
Unit i.e. 4 questions in all. Each question will carry 15 marks.

Instructions for paper setters and candidates:
• The maximum marks for the theory paper will be 60. Time allowed will be 3 hours.
• There shall be 9 questions in all out of which 5 have to be attempted.
The first question is compulsory comprising 10 short answer type questions spread over the whole
syllabus to be answered in about 75-100 words each. The candidates are required to attempt 6
questions. Each question shall be of 2 marks. (6X2 = 12 marks)

Objectives of the Course

a) i) Basic concepts: rights, duties; ii) Nature of rights: absolute/reasonable;

(A) Course Objectives:
The purpose of the course is to introduce the students to the profession of Journalism. By
the end of the course the students will be conversant with the basic news values, news
story structure and editing process. They will also be conversant with staff qualities and
responsibilities.
(B) Pedagogy of the Course Work:
Lectures (including expert lectures). Tests, assignments and class room participation
should be given due space during the course of instruction.
